Real hope in azoospermia

A diagnosis of “no sperm” is not the end of the road

Even when a semen analysis shows no sperm at all, many men still have areas within the testicle that are producing sperm. MicroTESE uses microscope-level precision to search for them and retrieve them for use in ICSI.

When is this the right procedure?

Microsurgical retrieval is a precise option when sperm cannot be obtained by conventional means:

Azoospermia

No sperm detected on two separate semen analyses.

Non-obstructive azoospermia

Reduced or arrested production within the testicle itself, not just a blockage.

Previous retrieval failure

No sperm found with needle aspiration or conventional extraction.

Preparing for ICSI

A direct source of sperm is needed to fertilise eggs or to freeze for later use.

Why MicroTESE at Misr Andrology Center?

The surgical microscope raises the chance of finding sperm while protecting testicular tissue.

Surgical-microscope precision

High magnification identifies the fuller seminiferous tubules most likely to contain sperm.

Best chance of finding sperm

A systematic sweep of testicular tissue outperforms random sampling, especially in difficult cases.

Less testicular damage

Minimal tissue is removed while blood vessels and testicular function are preserved where possible.

Experience since 1989

The first and largest andrology center in the Middle East, with a top-tier surgical team and technology.

Your treatment, step by step

A precise procedure, carefully coordinated with the ICSI journey.

  1. 1

    Comprehensive assessment

Clinical exam, hormonal tests, and genetic screening when needed, to identify the cause and plan the best retrieval approach.

  2. 2

    Coordination & preparation

Timing the procedure with your partner’s egg retrieval or a freezing plan, and choosing the right anaesthesia.

  3. 3

    Microsurgical retrieval

A small scrotal incision; testicular tissue is examined under the microscope to locate productive tubules and retrieve sperm with minimal damage.

  4. 4

    Lab work & follow-up

The sample is examined and prepared for ICSI or frozen, and your recovery is followed over a few days.

Microsurgical sperm retrieval: common questions

Is the procedure painful?

It is performed under suitable anaesthesia, so you feel nothing during it. Afterwards, discomfort is mild and controlled with simple painkillers within a few days, as the incision is small.

How long is recovery?

Most patients return to their usual routine within a few days, avoiding strenuous activity for a short period as advised by the doctor.

What are the chances of finding sperm?

They vary case by case with the underlying cause and your assessment, and your doctor will give you a realistic estimate after a full evaluation. The surgical microscope offers the highest chance compared with conventional methods.

Will it affect my testosterone or sexual function?

The microsurgical technique is designed to remove the least tissue and preserve blood supply, minimising any effect on testicular function. Hormone levels are monitored when needed.

What if no sperm are found?

Your doctor discusses every possibility with you before and after the procedure and sets out a clear alternative plan for your case — you are never left without options.
